A shepherd’s staff was never meant to be a weapon—until Rome stole his son.
For thirty years, Nicholas has been a shadow in the Judean hills, driven by a single, dark vow: a life for a life. While the iron grip of the Empire bleeds the land dry through crushing taxes and brutal decrees, Nicholas stalks the man responsible for his ruin. He doesn't want justice; he wants blood.
The Empire didn't just steal his son; it stole his future, leaving him to graze his dwindling flock on the margins of a land that feels more like a prison than a promise. Every lamb seized for a tax-farmer’s profit, and every coin squeezed from his calloused hands, is a fresh coal on the fire of his vengeance. He is no longer a man of the hills—he is a man of the shadow, waiting for a chance to strike back at the throne that broke him.
But as a new King rises in Galilee, performing miracles that defy the laws of men, Nicholas is forced onto a collision course with a different power. Faced with the man he once worshiped in a manger, the shepherd must make a final, lethal choice: will he strike the blow he has sharpened for a lifetime, or will he surrender his blade to the Prince of Peace?

What Readers Are Saying About The Shepherd's Secret:
5.0 out of 5 stars The Shepherd's Secret is a must-read!
Another great book by author David Morrow. This book kept me wanting to read on through the twists and turns of the life journey of two brothers. I couldn’t put it down!! This book is real; the story may have been in a distant time ago, but it is as relevant as today’s life lessons. With this book, it’s a great mixture of family trials, life experiences, and keeping God centered in the story and the need for a savior.
Can’t wait for the next book.
5.0 out of 5 stars Full of adventure.
This series is full of adventure, romance, drama, and even some comedy. Amos has been one of my favorites from the beginning. I’ve enjoyed his journey through real-life experiences. The author has beautifully incorporated truth from the Word into the lives of his characters. I can’t wait for the dramatic conclusion of this 3-book series.
5.0 out of 5 stars Christian fiction at its best.
The story continues … even better than book one! Great Christian fiction! Believability. Intrigue. Suspense. David has great imagination as a writer.
Left me anxious for book three!

Ask the author.
How long have you been writing?
For many years. But for the fiction world, it has only been since January of 2024.
What's next?
I will finish the Prodigal Shepherd Series by spring 2027. I think I may return to expand The Lost Wise Man into a trilogy or maybe a new series based on a New Testament character with whom I really identify. I have outlined a four-book series and have written half of the first book.
Have you considered writing in other genres?
I think that every author feels the grass is greener in another genre. I am considering something in kids' fiction, but that would be years away. I love mysteries and am fascinated to consider writing a "Who done it?" But unless the right character and set pop into my mind. That may never happen.
Would you think about writing contemporary Christian fiction?
Yes, for sure. There is great interest in telling today's stories with a Christian viewpoint. This could be written in the next 12 months. I am considering several possible storylines.
Why are you drawn to Biblical Historical Fiction?
They say you write best what you love most. I love reading the Bible and consuming its truths. Blending those truths with fictional characters in a biblical setting is super fulfilling. When you laugh out loud at your characters or tears trickle down your cheek while you are alone with your story, you are either crazy or immersed. I guess you have to read more to decide which I am.
Blessings, David
